The Helsinki Summer University offers an extensive selection of language courses in more than 20 languages every year. Additionally, we offer courses in some languages throughout the year. Please note that the language of instruction is primarily Finnish. If you have any questions, please contact the office before enrolment.
The language courses are intensive, enabling the student to efficiently progress in the chosen language. In addition to lessons, the courses require a substantial amount of independent study.
If a language course offered by the Helsinki Summer University corresponds to a language course arranged by the University of Helsinki, this is mentioned in the course description. Participants on these courses are automatically registered as both Helsinki Summer University and Helsinki Open University students.
Students must purchase the course books in advance.
The Helsinki Summer University applies the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) to help you assess your language skills. The course description mentions a starting level, which is an estimate of the required language skills in order to succeed on the course. You can assess your language skills by using the DIALANG system, which is based on the European Framework.
