Content: England is a country like any other, proud of its own traditions and lore. Unlike those of its Celtic neighbours, they are less defining, less well known, but in the Brexit era are even more popular than ever. This course looks at four specific areas of the country, a little of their histories and a lot of their own folk dance traditions. The last part of each session will be a hands-on introduction to these dances and will be accessible to all able-bodied and disabled participants alike. The regions to be investigated are The Cotswolds, the area between Oxford and Bath; The Border regions of Shropshire and Wales; East Anglia near Norwich and Peterborough; and the North-West, especially around the old industrial towns in Lancashire like Bolton, Preston and Manchester.
